DescriptionTwo medals commemorating the 1st International Congress on the Histopathology of the Nervous System held in Rome in 1952. Obverse: profile busts of Camillo Golgi (1843-1926) and Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852-1934). Reverse: image of a microscope and neurons (nerve cells) surrounded by the words "1° CONGRESSO.INTERNAZ.DI.ISTOPATOLOGIA.DEL.SISTEMA.NERVOSO.ROMA 8-13 SETT.1952"; the maker's name "JOHNSON" appears below the microscope in smaller font. Each medal is suspended from a short chain with a small circular disc attached at the end, likely for hanging from a buttonhole.
