| Title | Edward Jenner's Snuff-Box |
| Date | 1775-1825 |
| Description | Wooden snuff-box formerly belonging to Edward Jenner. Rounded with hinged lid upon which is a metal nameplate inscribed with the word "Jenner".
This item was presented to RCPI in 1887 by Mr William Harty. The snuff-box was originally given by Sir Edward Jenner 's family, after his death, to Dr Basson of Gloucester who was the author of "A Memoir of Dr Jenner''. By him it was given to Dr Richard Gamble, FRPCI, who lived in Gloucester. Dr Gamble left a residue in his estates in certain events to William Harty's father (also named William) who inherited the snuff-box. He valued it and kept it, sometimes using it. The name Jenner was not originally on the box but was added by William Harty's father to identify it. |
