TitleRomicil Capsules
Date1925-1975
Creator NameRoche Products Ltd, biotech company, 1896-
DescriptionThe orange cardboard box contains a dark brown glass bottle with a twistable tin cap. The bottle has an orange label with black writing, displaying the same information as the packaging: “12 ‘Romicil’ trademark brand capsules, 100 mg oleandomycin, Roche Products Limited, Welwyn Garden City, England.” One side of the label states, “No refrigeration required. To be used before Feb. '59,” while the other side reads, “Each capsule contains 100 mg oleandomycin as the crystalline phosphate.” The bottle is now empty and has been filled with some cotton. The original leaflet is also present.

Oleandomycin is no longer used in human medicine because it has become less effective compared to newer antibiotics and due to bacterial resistance. It was primarily used to treat upper respiratory tract infections and infections caused by bacteria in the Staphylococcus and Enterococcus genera, as reported in the attached patient information leaflet.
