| Description | Bronze medal commemorating German anatomist and physiologist Friedrich Tiedemann (1781-1861). Obverse: profile bust of Tiedemann, facing right, surrounded by the words "FRIDERICVS TIEDEMANN NAT.D.XXIII AVG.MDCCLXXXI" and the maker's name "C.VOIGT" in smaller font, below. Reverse: the image of a starfish surrounded by the words "VIRO DE AVGENDA NATVRAE SCIENTIA PER X LVSTRA EGREGIE MERITO SODALES" and "FRANCOF.A.M./D.X MART.MDCCCLIV" in smaller font, below.
Tiedemann was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1836. This medal was issued in 1854 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the conferring of his doctorate. |
