Obverse: the profile bust of Jacob, facing left, with his surname to the right and the medal designer's name "W WOODHOUSE F" in smaller font, below. Reverse: a laurel wreath enclosing the words " IN COMMEMORATION OF EMINENT SERVICES RENDERED TO SCIENCE AND THE MEDICAL PROFESSION IN IRELAND 1860" and around the edge, the words "ARTHUR JACOB. M.D. F.R.C.S. PROF. OF ANAT. & PHYS. ROY. COLL. OF SURG. IN IRELAND."
"John Woodhouse's medals were catalogued and described by Dr. Frazer in Vol. XVIII of the 'Journal of the Royal Historical and Archaeological Association, 1887-1888'.
