| Description | Contains series of volumes titled, 'Leave Books' which cover the years from 1869 until 1977 and record patient requests for temporary leave from the hospital, and approval or otherwise granted by the appointed visiting governor. This run of bound volumes is complete with the exception of periods between: September 1893 until December 1894; and July 1922 until January 1938.
Leave books are laid out in folios, with three columns on the verso recording 'Applicants name, time, and circumstances of case' and on the recto recording, 'Visiting governor's decision, and grounds for it'. The exception to this is the first leave book which is a handwritten notebook beginning in July 1869 until August 1870. |
