| Description | This section contains a small collection of papers relating to the College's museum which flourished in the mid nineteenth century. The museum was found between 1827 and 1830 by members of the College, its original collections were supplemented in 1862 by a large collection of Materia Medica specimens donated by George Bacon Wood, an Honorary Fellow of the College. Initially housed in Dun's Hospital the collection was moved to Kildare Street in 1864, it had originally been intended to divide the current library into a library and museum, but this plan was changed and the museum was housed in the what is now the Cheyne Room. As well as medical specimens the museum also contained some medals and other items which are now part of the Heritage Items Collections, as are the small number of surviving specimens. For minutes of the Museum Committee see the Occasional Committees section RCPI/2/2. |
