DescriptionMinute books of the College Council, formerly the General Purposes Committee and before that the Parlimentary Committee.

The Parliamentary Committee was a committee used by the College to apply for parliamentary legislation the College thought was necessary and to provide the College's view on legislation relating to medicine under consideration by the government. The Committee did not sit continuously and was used only when an issue arose, early minutes can be found in the occasional committee minute books (RCPI/2/2/1). In 1965 the term Parliamentary Committee in the statutes was replace by General Purposes committee, whose term of reference was 'to consider matters referred to it by the College and to report back'. In October 1976 it was decided that 'the words General Purposes Committee be replaced by the Words Council wherever they occur, the Council was to be the advisory body to the College, where all decissions were still to be made in formal meetings.
