| Description | In 1878 Letters Patent were granted to the College, to avoid the necessity of a completely new charter. The Letters Patent modify the original charter in several places, and introduce new clauses around examinations and the election of Fellows. Most significantly the Letters give the College the power to establish a new order of Membership, between the Licentiates and the Fellows.
