| Description | Hard bound printed volume containing manuscript entries of probationer nurses attending the Mater Misericordiae Hospital School of Nursing for training. There is an alphabetical index of nurses and corresponding page numbers for their entries at the front of the register. Probationer entries are listed under the following headings: Date of Appointment; Name and Address; Age; By Whom Recommended; Previous Occupation; Remarks; Date of Leaving; and Reason. The ‘Remarks’ section gives details of examination results, certificates obtained and general conduct.
The final 2 pages in the register are entries for nuns, all Sisters of Mercy, who undertook nursing training in the Mater; all are from the Sisters of Mercy convent in Carysfort Park, Blackrock, Dublin. The ‘Remarks’ section contains the dates of their Preliminary and Final State examinations undertaken, certificates obtained and general conduct.
