| Description | Hardbound notebook containing manuscript minutes of the Ladies Dance Committee and of the Mater Rugby Football Club. The Ladies Dance Committee minutes date from [9 Dec] 1945-13 Jan 1975 whilst the Rugby Club minutes date from 21 Oct 1945-29 Oct 1975. The Ladies Dance Committee section (pages 1-99) contains manuscript signed and dated minutes of the meetings generally held in January and December of each calendar year. The Committee was also titled the ‘Ladies Committee for the Annual Dress Dance’ and the ‘Ladies Committee of the Mater Misericordiae Rugby Football Club’. The minutes record when and where the meetings were held, who was in the chair and the members. Topics include discussions concerning the date, location and price of the dances, the organisation of raffles and spot prizes, menu’s, posters, tickets and other administrative matters.
The Mater Rugby Football Club section (p100-258) contains manuscript signed and dated minutes of the Annual General Meetings, and occasionally Extraordinary General Meetings. The minutes record when and where the meetings were held, and topics include the proposal and election of members for various positions including Club President and Captain; the Honourable Secretary’s Reports on the year’s events which include reports of matches in the Hospitals Cup, team trips away and other social events; discussions concerning financial matters; the annual dance to raise funds for the club; and other administrative matters. The minutes begin in 1945 on page 145 and run chronologically until the end of the notebook, then return to page 106-141 for the years 1970-1974, and finally return to pages 100-105/6 for the 1974/75 season. There is also a list of club Presidents from 1945-1975 on the last page of the notebook.
Enclosures include: a manuscript list of named Mater staff and their [?proposed] position on the rugby team ([c1974], 1p); a manuscript list of Mater staff names on a small notepad page with [?telephone numbers] beside each with some names crossed out and small ‘ticks’ beside others ([c1970]; 1p); a manuscript draft letter in French from a named Resident to an unnamed French rugby club regarding the organisation of a match between the Mater team and the French club ([c1972]; 1p).
