| Title | Set of Tracheostomy Obturators |
| Date | 1925-1975 |
| Creator Name | Fannin, Medical supply company, 1829- |
| Description | The obturators have a curved stem that ends in a teardrop shaped tip, as they would fit inside the outer cannula of the tracheostomy tube. On the opposite end, there is the inscription '36 F.G.'. These two obturators fit into the outer cannula by Fannin's, record CSFH/9/78. One has inscribed number "1", the other number "2" on the shaft. Corrosion is present. The primary function of the obturator is to guide the tracheostomy tube into the stoma (a surgical opening on the neck) during the insertion of the tube. Additionally, the device can be used to prevent airway obstruction when the tracheostomy tube is not in place, thus ensuring that the patient can breathe freely. The obturator can be easily inserted into and removed from the outer tracheostomy cannula. |
