CSFH/9/104 | Pethilorfan Ampoules Box | This is an empty packaging box of Pethilorfan, an injectable analgesic for the relief of pain. It is a white, square cardboard box with a label on each wider side. The larger label is grey and red with white and black writing, indicating the manufacturer’s name, contents and that is a poison, and place of production. The smaller label is circular and features the manufacturer’s name and logo. The lid can be pulled open, revealing the main body with 12 slots to secure the ampoules. There is additional handwriting in pencil on the top of the lid indicating “6/=(12)”. A small leaflet features a painting and a description of how to safely open the ampoule. | 1900-1999 |
CSFH/9/105 | Romicil Capsules | The orange cardboard box contains a dark brown glass bottle with a twistable tin cap. The bottle has an orange label with black writing, displaying the same information as the packaging: “12 ‘Romicil’ trademark brand capsules, 100 mg oleandomycin, Roche Products Limited, Welwyn Garden City, England.” One side of the label states, “No refrigeration required. To be used before Feb. '59,” while the other side reads, “Each capsule contains 100 mg oleandomycin as the crystalline phosphate.” The bottle is now empty and has been filled with some cotton. The original leaflet is also present.
Oleandomycin is no longer used in human medicine because it has become less effective compared to newer antibiotics and due to bacterial resistance. It was primarily used to treat upper respiratory tract infections and infections caused by bacteria in the Staphylococcus and Enterococcus genera, as reported in the attached patient information leaflet. | 1925-1975 |
CSFH/9/109 | Becosym Syrup | This is an empty bottle of ‘Becosym’ Syrup, Vitamin B-Complex with a small amount of residue. The dark brown glass bottle has a twistable tin cap. It features a yellow label with green and brown writing, indicating the brand name, the content, and the dosage. Made by Roche Products Limited in England, this was meant to be a professional sample of Vitamin B-Complex as indicated on the label. | 1925-1975 |
