Orovite B-Complex Tablets

This is a tin case containing 25 tablets of Orovite B-complex, as indicated on the label. Produced by Vitamins Limited in England, this vitamin product contains various elements in each tablet, as described on the label, along with the recommendation to use one or two tablets every day. An additional and smaller white lable with black in writing indicates that it was a sample. The lid, featuring an LV decoration, can be twisted open. Inside, the red vitamin tablets and the original leaflet can be found.

Spirit Lamp

This is a spirit lamp consisting of a clear glass bottle, a screw brass attachment where the cotton wick is inserted and extends into the empty bottle, and a clear glass cap. The brass attachment appears discoloured and stains are visible at the bottom of the bottle. The base is embossed with the words "LONDON MADE" and "MA". The cap cannot be removed. This type of spirit lamp was used for urine analysis or other clinical analyses.

Knight Bachelor's badge. Consists of red enamel and silver gilt, which is worn. Oval-shaped with hinged pin on the back. Obverse: sword in the centre with spurs on either side. Life size statue of Sir Henry Marsh (1790-1860) by John Henry Foley R.A. R.H.A. (1818-1874). White statuary marble figure, standing, wearing an academic gown and holding a cap. Signed J.H. Foley and dated London, 1866. Pedestal inscribed "SIR HENRY MARSH, BART. M.D./PRESIDENT/OF THE KING AND QUEEN'S COLLEGE/OF PHYSICIANS IN IRELAND./MDCCCXLI." Marsh was elected President three times, serving in 1841-1843, 1845-1847 and 1857-1859.

Corrigan was President from 1859 to 1864, the first Catholic to hold that office.

Dominic Corrigan Silver Ewer

Silver ewer of cylindrical form, the hinged lid with leafy finial above an s-scroll handle with palmette thumb rest, the spout chased with mask decoration and the entire with repoussé work, trailing foliage amidst scrolls and cartouches raised on a circular base. Small engraving of the coat of arms of Dominic Corrigan (sword pointing downwards between two battleaxes surrounded by the motto "CONSILIO ET IMPETU") along with the inscription "To/Dominic J. Corrigan Esqr. M.D./as a mark of the/Warm Friendship/and/Affectionate Gratitude/OF/EDWARD HUTTON". Stamped near rim with the maker's initials "RH" and London hallmarks for the year 1864.

William Stokes Silver Mounted Glass Claret Jug

Silver mounted glass claret jug of cylindrical form, the hinged lid cast with boar finial above a strapwork and scroll border interposed with masks. The glass is etched with foliage and fruit design and has been damaged and glued back together. The inside of the silver lid is stamped with the maker's initials "JCE", the number "1407" and London hallmarks for the year 1856, and the rim is inscribed "W.R. WILDE. To his Friend WM. STOKES."

Silver-gilt ewer of elongated baluster form with s-scroll handle cast in the form of a therm, the double ribbed body chased and engraved with masks and animals amidst foliage and strapwork and raised on a stepped circular foot. Underside of foot inscribed: "Presented by/Dr. J. Stephen Doyle/to the Fellows of the/Royal College of Physicians of Ireland/to mark his Presidency/31st May 1991 - 18th October 1994". Neck stamped with maker's initials "H&R" and London hallmarks for the year 1867. Rim of foot inscribed: "HUNT & ROSKELL LATE STORR & MORTIMER 4316".

Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve (QAIMNSR) silver medal. Obverse: a large "R" in the centre, crowned, and surrounded by the words "QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S IMPERIAL MILITARY NURSING SERVICE RESERVE". Reverse: stamped "CARRINGTON & Co./LONDON" (above the "R") and "B.H.J" (below the "R"). Hallmarked for Birmingham, 1916. Attached via a suspension loop to a red, navy and white striped ribbon, which is pinned at the top.


Awarded to Staff Nurse Margaret Mary (Rita) Kavanagh (1889-1971) from Tralee, Co. Kerry, who in July 1916 joined the QAIMNSR at Napsbury Military/County of Middlesex War Hospital near St. Albans, Hertfordshire and served on the Continent, first with the British Expeditionary Force from March 1918 to February 1919 and then with the Rhine Army until June 1920. She re-applied to serve with the QAIMNSR at the beginning of the Second World War and in 1940 joined the Civil Nursing Reserve at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
