| Description | This is an obstetrical hook, a long metal hook with narrow horizontal handle. The tip of the hook has three pointed teeth. There is a vague inscriptions handmade on the point where the body and handle are screwed together - possibly saying "416". Made by "Fannin Dublin" as engraved on the handle, it appears heavily corroded. A hook tool was a destructive instrument. It extracted a dead foetus from the mother's body. The curve in the body of the instrument was used to cup the baby's head. |
