| Description | Silver presentation trowel with ivorine handle. The blade is decorated with shamrocks and has the following inscription in Irish: "Do bronnad[h] an liag[h]án so/ar Eilís,/bean Stopford Green,/ Seanadóir/ar gcur céad-c[h]loic[h]e/de T[h]igh Ultáin/i a h-áit di." (Translation: This trowel was presented to Alice Stopford Green, Senator, who placed the first stone of Saint Ultan's Hospital in its place). The back of the trowel is inscribed "An 15adh lá mí na Nollaig 1927" and is stamped with the maker's initials "H&T" and hallmarked Birmingham 1896. In a presentation box; on the inside of the lid is the name "DONEGAN/32 Dame Street/DUBLIN". |
