| Description | In the late 1950s the College became aware that the facade of Number 6 was in need of urgent work, the sandstone facade was coming away from the brink front of the building, and the College was warned that the situation was so bad that there was a danger of pieces falling onto the pavement in front of the building. In 1963 the College accepted the proposal of the architect Desmond FitzGerald to replace the entire facade in Portland Stone. To raise the funds for the project debentures were offered to College Fellows and Members in 1964, however the tale up was slow and a second appeal had to be made in 1967, to coincide with the College's tercentenary. The work was completed and the debentures finally repaid in 1978. Architectural plans can be found at RCPI/11/17 |
