TitleAttorney General for Ireland vs. The Governors and Company of Apothecaries' Hall
Date1887-1888
Creator NameKing and Queen's College of Physicians in Ireland
DescriptionIn 1887 the College of Physicians sought legal opinion on a proposal by the Apothecaries' Hall and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland to form a joint board offering qualifications in Medicine and Surgery, the College of Physicians felt that as the Apothecaries' Certificate was not the same as a licence from the College or Medical degree that the proposal went against the Medical Acts of 1858 and 1886. Counsel advised the College to take a case in Chancery against the Apothecaries' Hall which they did, the judge found against the College of Physicians and upheld the right of the Apothecaries' Hall and College of Surgeons to offer a joint qualification.
