| Title | Silver Pap Boat |
| Date | 1820 |
| Description | Silver pap boat with bead work edge. Inscription 'F. Mc Can' engraved along back. A lion passant hallmark is stamped and barely visible above the 'F indicating it was made in England. Next is an indecipherable maker's mark, then the crowned leopards head of the London Assay Office stamp indicating it was made in London, and to right of that is a lowercase 'e' in simple script indicating the piece was made in 1820 (per the London Assay Office). Pap boats were used to feed children and patients 'pap', a mix of gruel, bread, and milk. Most pap boats were produced between 1715-1830s, ones with decorative edging tend to be from the 19th century. |
