| Description | Leg and spinal brace apparatus, consisting of a leg brace with footrest, labelled "James", featuring a rubber piece at the bottom of the foot engraved with "PHILLIPS STAR". The leg brace connects to the spinal brace, which is made of metal with leather cushions and straps, along with a leather and rubber spare chin support. The apparatus is complete with spare screws in its original packaging.
This device belonged to patient advocate and author Jim Costello, who campaigned for polio awareness and donated it to RCPI. It was part of his treatment for polio in Cherry Orchard Hospital. |
