| Description | The ochre canvas case, equipped with two pockets, has one of its two buttons to secure the Neville’s Axis Traction Forceps, also referred to as Neville Barnes Obstetric Forceps.
These forceps, “Made in England” by "Fannin & Co Ltd" (as engraved), are constructed from nickel-plated metal.
They feature two curved fenestrated blades and fishtail handles.
A traction handle, complete with a swivel-turning threaded arm bolt, ensures the secure locking of the two arms together.
This type of forceps is a size 6, as andraved inside of each handle.
The plate is heavily corroded, and the canvas case is stained and damaged (one button missing, and unstitched on the side).
They are used for delivery of babies presenting as occipito-anterior. The left blade is put on first, followed by the right and then secured together with the locking/traction handle mechanism. |
