| Description | The body and handle of the rectal speculum are made with clear, light-diffusing plastic made by the Curvlite company, which would allow for full inspection of the walls of the anal canal. It has a detachable probe, with a wide and rounded tip. There is also an attachment that would have held a torch (missing).
It resembles the Kelly sphincteroscope, but the added light attachment is not a traditional part of that particular model of scope.
The plastic is discoloured with age and ripping in some areas. The metal on the end of the probe is plated and scratched in some places, while the metal of the rest of the speculum appearing to be non-plated but still scratched and tarnished in some places--particularly where different parts of the apparatus rub together while in use or when being secured together. |
