| Title | Sparklet Apparatus |
| Date | 1900-1949 |
| Description | This apparatus is a Sparklet Apparatus, used to introduce carbon dioxide or oxygen to the respiratory system. It has a long, cylindrical body made of metal that acts as a case for the carbon dioxide or oxygen canister, as well as a stopcock comprised of three pieces: the handle, the spout, and the bolt. A rubber hose would be attached to the spout, however that is missing from this apparatus. There is an unlabeled canister within the body of the apparatus.
The body of spout of the stopcock has "MADE IN ENGLAND" engraved on it. The handle has "SCEW DOWN LIGHTLY" engraved on the top.
There is moderate corrosion to the body of the canister, as well as heavy scratching. The spout has a small amount of corrosion, as well as some residue on the tip of the spout. The bolt also has moderate corrosion, as well as scratching around the sides of it. The handle has much heavier corrosion that is concentrated on one side of the handle and on the central knob itself. The canister is heavily corroded.
The apparatus was invented by British physician H. Whitridge Davies in 1927 to aid in ether administration and resuscitation. |
