TitleCautery Kit
Date1900-1949
DescriptionThe kit is composed of a metal box with a removable lid. The lid presents red writing: ‘CAUTERE LEON. PARIS.’ Inside, there’s a small cork-sealed glass bottle labeled with paper decorated in black ink, reporting ‘POintesPOurCAUtereLeon,’ ‘N’260.7c,’ and ‘PRIX.’ Unfortunately, the cork lid cannot be removed to see inside the little bottle, but it probably contains silver nitrate tips, similar to the one present in the steel cautery. The cautery has a round handle, thinning toward the tip, which features hooks to keep the point in place. The engraving ‘CAUTERE LEON. PARIS’ appears at the opposite end.
Silver Nitrate was commonly used as cauterisation method.
