| Description | This is a Gillies needle holder, made of stainless steel by Fannin, as engraved. It is the Gillies type, composed of two screw joint shafts, with two finger rings on one end and blunt tips on the other. It has asymmetrical finger ring handles to optimise the operator’s control of small and delicate needles. The jaws have scissor blades near the joint to assist in cutting and reshaping sutures, and are engraved internally with the number "30". Additionally, the jaws have internal cross-serrations to deliver firm non-slip grips, and one features a fenestration.
This needle holder was designed by Sir Harold Gillies, a pioneering plastic surgeon from New Zealand. He is often referred to as the “father of modern plastic surgery”and his contributions laid the foundation for many modern surgical practices. |
