| Description | Square, wood engraving block depicting the seal of the King and Queen's College of Physicians in Ireland (later RCPI). Composed of a metal plate attached to the wood with a screw at each of the four corners. Upon this, a shield in the centre with Hercules slaying the Hydra, the harp of Ireland in one corner and a helmet with a pelican on top. Standing either side of the shield are the gods Mercury and Apollo. Underneath is the motto "INVIDET ORCO" and surrounding the whole is the text (in reverse) "SIGILLVM COLLEGII MEDICORVM REGIS ET REGINÆ IN HIBERNIA". Possibly used to illustrate Dr. Belcher's "Memoir of John Stearne..." (1865, p. 30). The Hercules seal was used by the College from 1692-1863.
