HistoryEdmond Joseph Theophilus (Theo) McWeeney was born in 1894 the son of the pathologist Professor Edmond J McWeeney. Theo McWeeney was a medical student at University College Dublin on the outbreak of the First World War, he left his studies to join the British Amry serving on the Western Front. He returned to Dublin receiving his MB in 1922, after which he spent time in the Irish Free State Army Medical Service and the Medical Service of the Royal Air Force. McWeeney received his MD in 1932, he then worked for the Public Health Department in Ireland, which a special focus on Tuberculosis. In 1950 McWeeney moved to the World Heath Organisation, providing advice on Tuberculosis. He retired in 1964 returning to Dublin, where he wrote and lectured.
He died in November 1976, leaving a wife Margaret 'Patsy' (nee Brady) and a daughter, Dr Monica McWeeney.
