The clergy wanted Corrigan's assurance on two issues, firstly an 'unqualified declaration in support of middle class denominational education as understood by the R[oman] C[atholic] bishops and a grant for colleges'. Secondly, that he was never in future 'to express an opinion in favour of mixed education, that the utmost he has to do, was to tolerate but not to advocate it'. |
