| Title | Trocars and Cannulae in Metal Case |
| Date | 1925-1975 |
| Description | The metal case, marked “LR”, contains a set of four trocars. The handle of the case can be unscrewed to reveal trocars and cannulae of various sizes. It is inscribed with the word “Stainless”. The largest trocar does not have a cannula, whereas the others do. These cannulae can be detached by twisting the base of the trocar. The manufacturer is unknown. Signs of corrosion and stains are visible. Trocar-cannulas were originally used to relieve pressure from fluid or gas build-up. They are still used during thoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgery to create pathways into the abdominal cavity for inserting instruments. Similarly, they could also be used in post-mortem embalming. |
