| Description | Bound volume containing annual reports of the Managing Committee with attached medical reports.
The volume consists of reports of the Managing Committee for every year ending 31 March between 1889 and 1899. The volume also contains medical reports for every year ending 31 March between 1889 and 1899. Note that the report of the Managing Committee for the year ending 31 March 1896 is at the end of the volume, and that the 1899 annual report covers both Cork Street Fever Hospital and Beneavin Convalescent Home, Glasnevin.
Prominent topics evident in the reports include improvements and extensions to hospital accommodation (such as the opening of Beneavin Convalescent Home and a nurses' residence), hospital finances, staffing, changes in the membership of the Managing Committee, and admissions of patients, including some from other institutions, such as the North and South Dublin Unions. The reports also show efforts to introduce better sanitary measures in Dublin, theories on the causes of diseases, opinions regarding types of treatment, and increased intakes of patients due to epidemics of typhoid fever, influenza, measles, erysipelas, smallpox, scarlatina, German measles, and enteric fever. |
