| Description | This file includes five responses received from County Carlow. They are as follows; One letter answering the inquiry from Edward Kenny, Moviddy, dated 02 December 1799. In his letter he references the parishes of Moviddy, Kilbrogan, Aglish, [Cannaway], [Templemartin], and [Kilmurry].
One letter answering the inquiry from James Hartford in Yorkville, dated 17 December 1799. He states that he hasn’t had much time of late but that his answers relate to a district close to Cork City. He states that the answers he has enclosed will also probably apply to the majority of the county.
One letter answering the inquiry as it relates to Glanmire, the main parish in Cork city and two smaller parishes at a distance from the main city. The sender, Rector of Rathcony (now Rathcooney), [John Chetwood], states that the poor are fairly well kept but there could be some improvement, for example they could use about a dozen spinning wheels annually (10 February, 1800).
One letter answering the inquiry for West Carbery, sent by [Joi Wright]. He states that his response was delayed because there was a lot of variation between the east and the west of the lands he was surveying and the answers were then made more delayed due to the celebration of Easter. (16 April, 1800).
One letter answering the inquiry for Bantry, dated 30 October 1799, from [Mr Mafsynia].
One letter concerning labourer payments to Mr. A. Hutchins which states that many men in county Cork let or rent their lands to middlemen. This practice is mentioned to have led to some problems with rent payments in the county. |
