TitleCase of Richard Grattan Vs. the College
Date1826-1827
Creator NameKing and Queen's College of Visitors
DescriptionThis case was brought by Dr Richard Gratten following his removal from the College Fellowship. Grattan case was that the College had acted improperly in removing him from the fellowship and that following the resignation of James Leahy as Preseident in January 1826 a number of the Fellows including William Brooks (who replaced Leahy as President), Thomas Herbert Orpen, Robert Graves, William Harty and Samuel Litton had set out to insult him and have him removed from the College. The College's case was that Grattan had a grudge against the College as he was Vice-President and expected to be made President, but that the rules were changed to elections and Leahy won, they maintained that the College followed the governing statutes in the steps taken and that Grattan had continually acted privately and publically against the interests of the College. The Visitors found in favour of Grattan and the College was ordered to restore him to the Fellowship.
