Certificates contain the nurses name; date of entry to the hospital as a Probationer; term of training period and overall conduct; level of answering in examinations i.e. ‘excellent’, ‘very good’; date certificate awarded; and contains the signatures of the Superioress or ‘Lady Superior’, Matron, 4 Physicians and Surgeons, the Gynaecologist and Registrar. Also features a printed illustration of the Mater Hospital at the top, and a seal fixed to the bottom of the certificate with the image of the hospital and the words ‘Mater Misericordiae Hospital Dublin’. Dates of the certificates awarded are: 28 December 1903; 30 November 1920; 9 March 1925; 12 February 1931; 7 April 1946; 6 February 1947; and one blank certificate.
