| Description | Hard bound printed volume containing manuscript entries of probationer nurses attending the Mater Misericordiae Hospital School of Nursing for training. There is an alphabetical index of nurses and corresponding page numbers for their entries at the front of the register. Probationer entries are listed under the following headings: Date of Appointment; Name and Address; Age; By Whom Recommended; Previous Occupation; Remarks; Date of Leaving; and Reason. The ‘Remarks’ section gives details of examination results, certificates obtained and general conduct.
Enclosures include: a manuscript account in pen on a lined notepaper sheet for a named previous Mater-trained nurse including her address in United States of America - account lists her dates of training, that she was registered with the Irish Nursing Board, her register number, and date of registration, her ‘practical experience and time spent in each department of the Mater Misericordiae Hospital’ in days which includes 9 clinical departments and annual leave/Christmas leave/days off [c1930; 1p]; and a photocopy of a typed and signed letter of reference by Hospital Superioress Sr M C Grennell on Mater Hospital-headed notepaper for a named nurse (December 1925; 1p).
