| Description | Hard bound volume of manuscript notes of the receipts and expenditure of the Mater Misericordiae Hospital Medical Board. Manuscript frontispiece reads ‘Mater Misericordiae Hospital --- Cashbook of the Medical Board’. The layout of the book consists of monthly notes of receipts and expenditures which are totalled at the end of the financial year; the total amount of the accounts are signed and dated. Receipts include: payments of dividends to the Medical Board; named doctor’s fees and student doctor’s session fees (the year 1888 entry lists students name and addresses also). Expenditure includes: staff commission fees; advertisements in newspapers and medical journals; purchase of medical instruments; resident pupils fees and refunds of same; payments to the Sister Superior for summer & winter sessions/residents fees; fee-paying students and doctors from St Vincent’s and Jervis Street Hospital for ‘Fever practice’; sports clubs and Irish Language subscriptions, amongst others. Yearly totals of expenditure, receipts and dividends paid from 1861-1893 are at the end of the book.
Enclosures include: 3 pages of manuscript notes and calculations regarding the payment of residents’ fees to Mr’s Coppinger, Hayes, Blayney, and Lentaigne ([c1880]; 3p) and 1 page of manuscript calculations by persons unknown ([c1900];1p). |
