| Description | Sub-sub Series contains the printed and bound published annual reports of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin. This is not a complete set; the years 1876-1916, 1918-1927, and 1929-1976 are missing. Post 2013 the annual reports are in digital editions available to download from the Mater Hospital website ‘mater.ie’.
The first 4 annual reports for years ending 31 December 1866; 1869; 1870; and 1874 are photocopies only and are bound together [c1995]. The file for the annual report for the year ending 31 December 1917 contains an original hard copy (1917) and also a photocopy [c1995]. The file for the annual report for the year ending 31 December 1928 contains an original hard copy (1928) and partial photocopy [c2000]. The reports begin again in 1977 and continue until 2013 after which the reports are published on the Mater Hospital website.
The reports generally consist of lists of Board of Directors/Executive Council/Hospital Executive Committee/Medical Executive/Nursing Executive members; reports from the Chairman of the Executive Council/the Director/ the Chief Executive/ or Chairman’s Statement ; lists of subscriptions and donations; financial statements and statistics; patient statistics; and departmental/divisional reports, which lists all staff members and sub specialities, general overview of the department, current and on-going research, academic activities, publications, presentations given and attended, and papers published. Earlier reports (1970’s/1980’s) also contain in- and out-patient statistics.
Many of the reports contain photographs of patients and staff members including group photographs of medical and nursing staff and Sisters of Mercy, illustrating hospital treatments, and views of the hospital wards and departments. Early reports (1917; 1928) contain lists of ‘former pupils of the Mater Misericordiae Hospital at present in practice’ and list their name, address and qualifications.
In the 1980-2000 reports there are lists of the Sisters of Mercy hospitals throughout the world by country, county/state, city, name and type of institution, year of foundation and number of beds. |
