| Description | This is a minim measure, a small conical clear glass vessel used for measuring liquid medications. The glass features an embossed scale with "½" and "1" on one side, and a graduated scale ranging from "10" to "60" on the other.
Minim measures were used in pharmacy and medicine to accurately dispense small liquid doses, particularly for tinctures, liniments, and other liquid preparations. The minim was a unit of liquid volume once commonly used in apothecary measurements, with 60 minims equalling one fluid dram. This precise measurement tool ensured correct dosing, particularly in preparations where potent ingredients required strict control. Though now largely replaced by modern metric measurements, minim measures were essential in traditional medicine and pharmacology. Donated by Prof. FitzGerald. |
