| History | The Adelaide Hospital opened in 1839 in a house on Bride Street in Dublin, as a hospital for Protestant patients. The hospital on Bride Street closed in 1848, reopening ten years later on Peter Street. The new hospital was much larger than the original, and from the first allowed for clinical teaching. This teaching was overseen by the Hospital's Medical Board, made up of the hospital's three physicians and three surgeons. The hospital was granted a Royal Charter in 1920, one of the last to be granted in Ireland. The Adelaide Hospital closed in 1998, when it was incorporated as part of the new Tallaght Hospital. |
| Custodial History | Material was rescued from a skip outside the Adelaide Hospital following its closure in 1998, it was donated to the RCPI Heritage Centre in 2013. |
