  <dc:title>Diabetes Urinometer in Case</dc:title>
<dc:description>This is a Diabetes urinometer within a cardboard case. It's a cylindrical glass measuring aparatus separated into three sections: the weighted end, the middle section, and the stem containing the ivoy measuring board. The weighted end cotains mercury, which held the urinometer in the urine sample and is closed off from the rest of the urinometer.

The mercury has discolored the bottom section of the urinometer. The middle section is air-filled glass tubing, and the stem is the thinnest section of the urinometer and contains the ivory engraved with the measurements necessary for reading the test results.
Within the top section of the urinometer is a sliver of ivory that denotes the measurement scale on one side, from 60 ascending to 0, and on the other "Diabetes" at the bottom, followed by an "S" below an "H" within an X, then a "60° F" below a "W".

The cardboard case is covered with brown faux leather, with a red interior. There are small signs of wear and tear on the cardboard case.

This instrument would have been used to measure the gravity of a urine sample to assess the health and potential presence for diabetes in a patient. </dc:description>
