Ellis's Clavicle Crutch This is an Ellis’s Clavicle Crutch, or Ellis’s apparatus, “a special contrivance for treating fractures of the clavicle. It consists of a crutch, which is fixed in the axilla by a broad webbing passing over the opposite shoulder, and to which is attached a pocket into which the extremity of the crutch is inserted. The arm is then bound to the body by a second webbing, which is made to enclose the humerus, passing through two slots in the sides of the crutch, one in front and the other behind, and is buckled on the opposite side of the chest. The hand is supported in an ordinary sling” (Pick, 1885:157). This is made by Fannin, and the padded crutch appears stained. Signs of wear and tear are present. The slings are made of white cotton and each features leather and textile pads. The padded crutch fits in the metal and leather plate and slings apparatus. 1900-1949
