Rectangular plinth is inscribed with the words:  "THIS GAVEL OF IRISH OAK/RECOVERED FROM A BOG IN NORTH ANTRIM/WAS MADE BY/JOHN COLVILLE, FRCS(Ed), FRCSI/FOR THE USE OF/THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS OF IRELAND/Given on St. Luke's Day 1994".</dc:description>
