Initialled by Sir John Alfred Jones (1823-1893).  Nameplate on frame reads:  "THOMAS EDWARD BEATTY, M.D./PRESIDENT 1864-65./Painted by order of/The Medico-Philosophical Society/1869."  Beatty is the only man to have been President of both the Irish College of Physicians and Surgeons.</dc:description>
