  <dc:title>Spirit of Ether Nitrous Bottle</dc:title>
<dc:description>Empty bottle of Spirit of Ether Nitrous (Spiritus Ætheris Nitrosi). Clear glass bottle with a cork stopper. White typewritten paper label reads "Spts. Aeth. Nit. Dose. 15-60 min.". Small amount of residue in base of bottle.

Spirit of Nitrous Ether was historically used as a diuretic, diaphoretic (sweat-inducing), and mild antispasmodic. It was commonly prescribed for fevers, colds, urinary tract conditions, and as a gentle sedative. The preparation contained ethyl nitrite dissolved in alcohol, which helped to relax smooth muscles and promote urination. While once a popular household remedy, its use declined due to concerns over instability, potential toxicity, and the availability of safer alternatives.
