<dc:title>Conflict with the Catholic Hierarchy over education</dc:title>
<dc:description>During the run up to the by-election for the Dublin City seat in 1870 Corrigan's public expression of his views on the question of education led him into conflict with members of the Catholic hierarchy. His support for non-denominational education and for sweeping reforms to the university system brought him into conflict with Cardinal Cullen and others, who threatened to withdraw the support of the clergy from his campaign. This section contains letters and memoranda of meetings with members of the catholic hierarchy on this issue. </dc:description>
