Dr Joseph Doyle seems to have come from a Kilkenny family, his wife's name was Frances nee Purcell, and they had at least one son John Joseph, born 2 June 1815. During the period covered by this diary Doyle and his family lived in a house on Blessington Street, Dublin, making short trips to Kilkenny and Maynooth.</dc:description>
