  <dc:description>Under the Medical Act of 1858 the General Medical Council was responsible for compiling and publishing a national British Pharmacopoeia in English, which would replace the previous regional pharmacopoeias including the Dublin Pharmacopoeia (see RCPI/12). A series of branch committees were establish to assist in the preparation, including this one in Dublin, which had representatives from the College of Surgeons, College of Physicians and Apothecaries Hall. The British Pharmacopoeia was published in 1864.</dc:description>
