Date1900-1949
Creator NameJ. J. Graham & Co. Limited, Pharmaceutical Chemists and Apothecaries, 1821-[]
DescriptionThis is a jar containing powdered Potassium Bromide, consisting of a clear glass, cylindrical stoppered jar. Based on the white typewritten label in black ink, it once contained Potassium Bromide, with the dosage indicated as "Potass. Bromid. Dose: 5-30 grs." The cork stopper features an engraved black circle with the inscription "J.J. Graham & Co., Chemist, Dublin." Inside, some of the original white powdery contents are still visible.
The bottom of the jar is embossed with "W" and "2OZ".

Potassium Bromide was historically used as a sedative and anticonvulsant, commonly prescribed to calm the nervous system and treat conditions such as epilepsy and anxiety. It was also used to alleviate symptoms of nervous disorders and insomnia. While its use has declined due to the development of more effective and safer medications, it played a significant role in early medical treatments for these conditions.
