| Description | This is a Sodium Bicarbonbate Jar. It appears as a cylindrical stoppered jar, made of clear glass and wood stopper. Based on the white typewritten label in black ink, it contains Sodium Bicarbonate in powder form, with the dosage indicated as "Sodii Bicarb. Dose: 5-30 grs." The cork stopper features an engraved black circle with the inscription "J.J. Graham & Co., Chemist, Dublin." Inside, some of the white powdery contents are still visible. The bottom of the jar is embossed with "W" and "2OZ".
Sodium Bicarbonate was historically used as an antacid and alkalising agent, commonly prescribed to neutralise stomach acid, relieve indigestion, and treat conditions such as heartburn and acid reflux. It was also used in medical settings to counteract metabolic acidosis and as a mild expectorant in respiratory conditions. Over time, its use has continued, with modern formulations available in tablet and powder form for similar purposes.
