| Description | This is a bottle of Compound Tincture of Cardamom. It is clear glass with a cork stopper. The bottle has a white typewritten label reading "Tinct. Cardam. Co.", indicating it once contained Compound Tincture of Cardamom. The bottom of the bottle is embossed with the number 7. There is a small amount of dark reddish liquid inside the bottle.
Compound Tincture of Cardamom (Tinctura Cardamomi Composita) was historically used as a carminative and digestive aid, prescribed to relieve indigestion, bloating, and stomach discomfort. Made from cardamom and other aromatic botanicals extracted in alcohol, it was commonly taken to stimulate appetite and ease gastrointestinal distress. It was often included in medicinal preparations to improve both effectiveness and flavour. While cardamom remains a popular digestive remedy, traditional tinctures like this have largely been replaced by modern formulations such as capsules and herbal teas.
