TitleTincture of Grindelia Bottle
Date1900-1949
DescriptionThis is a bottle of Tincture of Grindelia. The bottle is a clear glass with a cork stopper, and contains black liquid. The bottle bears a white typewritten label reading "Grindeline Dose. 1-2. drs.".

Tincture of Grindelia was historically used as a respiratory remedy, particularly for asthma, bronchitis, and spasmodic coughs. Extracted from the Grindelia species, it contained compounds that acted as expectorants and mild antispasmodics, helping to relax bronchial muscles and promote mucus clearance. It was also sometimes applied topically for skin conditions like poison ivy irritation. While Grindelia preparations were once commonly prescribed, they gradually fell out of mainstream medical use with the development of more effective pharmaceutical treatments for respiratory conditions.
